…..
What measure do others use
when deciding how much to give me?
How do they know how much to pour—
to hold love back or let love heap.
…..
Do I let love abundantly spill
or scrape the excess and hoard.
Do I generously give from the till—
or remeasure, lest they get more.
…..
The truth can fully hurt
and an empty lap can weep—
when the measure given away
is exactly, what comes back to me.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measures, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”*

My problem, and I doubt I’m unique, is that I do give in “heaps”–and then one day I wake up dry and emptied out, nothin’ left. I’m sure that’s confusing and hurtful to people–but I have to regroup, refill.

I get that. I, too, have to take time to regroup. It’s amazing what comes back when we give even little heaps…like a smile, a friendly hello or small talk at the check-out. It doesn’t take a lot to warm a day and the blessings that come back always surprise me.
