I Samuel 25:29 “…the life of my master will be bound securely in the bundle of the living by the Lord your God…” (NIV)*
When still on my father’s farm, he baled the hay. Mown grass was packed tight into large square bundles and tied securely with taut string. The hay bales were secure enough to be stacked on a rickety wagon and stay put despite inevitable bumps along the way. They were secure enough to be thrown into a loft and stacked. Secure enough to hold tight until needed for winter’s feed.
Then, when the grass of summer was long gone and the cattle hungry, the strings were cut. The hay was loosened, spread, and the bundle’s purpose fulfilled. Nourishment.
Abigail spoke of David as bound securely in the bundle of the living. He was kept tight in God’s grip despite the advance of his enemies. I have to think she desired that same sense of security in her own life. To be bundled in the father’s love.
And then, to know the fulfillment of his intended purpose.
Read of Abigail’s wise intervention that spared her household and gained favor in the eyes of a king. It’s a great read–I Samuel 25, May 19th in The One Year Bible.

Of course I just read that, along with you! And I can’t think of anything better than being bundled securely in God’s love today. May He bless you so abundantly–love, sis Caddo

Patty, you are spot on when you called Abigail wise. She managed to stay respectful to her husband (without being helpless) even though he did not deserve it. In the end, it is God who is really taking care of all of us. “We are to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.”

I like that thought, of being bundled among the living! What a great way to live!

Yes, and I hadn’t noticed the bundled word in this section before. Love that about scripture…how words seem to pop out of no where!

It seems like we need to be in the right frame of mind at the right time, and Whammo! 🙂
