I Samuel 13:11-12 “…Saul replied, ‘When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash…I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering.'” (NIV)*
I so relate to Saul. He had good reason to take action. His troops were scattering, Samuel didn’t show up at the designated time, and the enemy was assembling. Every ounce of emotion had to be shouting, “Do something!”
But…he should have waited on God’s anointed to make the burnt offering. His heart was driven by fear and he felt compelled to take control. That’s what I so relate to.
………………..
Lord, settle my heart–
Replace fear with trust in you.
When I lose man’s approval
And troops scatter.
When circumstances loom large
And help doesn’t come.
Lord, settle my heart–
Replace fear with trust in you.
And help me…to wait.

You make me think more deeply on the psychology of impatience. I think our wish or attempt to move God’s hand is actually an attempt to be like God.
