Daniel 4:31 “The words were still on his lips when a voice came from heaven, ‘This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you.'”*
Nebuchadnezzar looked with pride at the kingdom of Babylon, vocalizing that he had built it by his own power and majesty. The words were still on his lips when a voice came from heaven and Nebuchadnezzar lost his sanity—just as Daniel had predicted the year before. It took seven years of living like an animal before Nebuchadnezzar looked up to heaven and his sanity was restored.
Nebuchadnezzar’s story is sobering. It keeps me on the edge of my chair with a renewed awareness of pride and of the words that stream from my mouth…this stream but a pouring-out of what’s in my heart.
Liquid thoughts
churn ’round & ’round,
sloshing against heart walls.
When words are poured,
life solidifies, paving
cement paths.
