Finding Freedom in Commitment to God

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

My Boss never leaves my side.
His presence comforts, in the daily hollows of life.

He restores peace to chaos, brings joy from sorrow, and
gives a much-needed poke in the arm, if I
take off in the wrong direction.

But usually, my Boss speaks in gentle whispers
and guiding nudges.
He presents opportunities for me to follow, but
lets me decide if I will obey, or not.

He shares with me His Words, that
speak wisdom into life and relationships,
provide examples of those who've gone before,
give boundaries to help life work better, and
describe heaven, my forever home.

Maybe you heard — my Boss died for me. What kind of Boss does that? He must love me so. He paid in full the penalty I owed and saved me from the consequences of my sin. I walk free.

Can you understand why I want to stay committed to my Boss? In commitment there is such freedom. Like an unfurled waving banner, secured to a steady pole.

I will stay tethered to this Boss.

He is mine. And I am His.

Lord, help me to stay focused on you. You are a wonderful Boss and I want to be committed to You. When I focus on pleasing people, I get overwhelmed. I worry what they think and whether I'm making them happy or not. You are the One I want to please. You are the One that matters most. Help me to love others without compromising who I am in You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
