The intelligent man is always open to new ideas. In fact, he looks for them.
— Proverbs 18:15 (LB)

Open my eyes to new ideas,
different angles and fresh perspectives.
To problems, bring help.
To conflict, resolution.
Teach me how to build bridges to connect opposing sides.
Soften this hardened heart.
Pry me from old habits, and
free me to think new thoughts.
Help me adhere to new ways to live.

I remember a particularly rough season financially when house projects sat staring at me undone, tugging at my peace of mind. I've pursued friendships that turned out to be one way streets with dead ends. I've applied for jobs I thought I wanted, but did not get.
We've all been there. The path we're on is getting us nowhere and we know something has to change — just not sure what.
What do you do when you feel stuck?
Sometimes we need help not only connecting the dots, but seeing dots we haven't seen before. How can I view my situation from another angle? Am I still living with decisions I made at age 18, and this direction no long fits my renewed life purpose?
We need another approach — something to help "unstick" us. Looking for new ideas isn't being discontent, it's being intelligent. It's using God-given brains to explore options and God-given smarts to make different decisions.
God's Word says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2 NIV).
God wants to renew your mind. Through His Word and through His Holy Spirit, it can happen. Take advantage of access to biblical teaching, books and counsellors through various media sources. Consult wise mentors.
While today's resources are valuable for searching out ideas, none of them compare to an ongoing relationship with the Lord. Your Heavenly Father gives 24/7 access.
You can pray anytime, anywhere, in this two-way relationship. A long prayer walk can do wonders for your attitude and outlook. The beauty of His creation can refresh your spirit and begin the stir of fresh ideas.
Ask for God's help and the ability to see unthought-of-before solutions to those nagging problems.
Scripture tells us, ". . . I have come that they may have life and have it to the full" (John 10:10 NIV). The Lord has a full life envisioned for us, brimming with meaning and purpose. We have to reach for it. We have to think big and different, not small and same.
When the new idea comes along, allow yourself to grow and change. That's the cycle of life. A new seed ages into a shade-giving oak tree and looks nothing like it did at the beginning of its life. Change can be healthy.
Lord, help us to look for new ideas when we’re stuck. To think new thoughts. To explore options. When life becomes dreary and we feel stuck, show us another angle and give us the courage to embrace it. In Jesus' name, Amen.
