The Tilted Cup

And he [Jesus] said, “Abba, Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will.”

Not this cup.

Not the cracked one —
aged by sins of old,
blackened by the filth of the world, and
brimming liquid mold.

Not that despised cup —
weighing heavy on the shelf
of love, and purposed for Your only Son
to drink. All. By. Himself.

Not the tainted one —
stained by shame, stricken with grief, and
gripped in agonizing pain.
Abba, Father, take it from Me.

Yet, not My will, but Yours.

And so, He took that bitter cup —
tilted it up, and
swallowed every polluted drop.
For you and for me.

Jesus knew what was coming and carried the cup of this knowledge everywhere He went. When the day came to drink it, He  sacrificed His life on the cross for you and for me. After three days He rose, and defeated death for everyone who will accept His  sacrifice of love.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for tilting the cup for me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
