God, Make me a Patched-up Water Pitcher of Grace

Accept one another, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.

I break,

and without a word, You wipe up the messy spill.

You pour grace lavishly —
all my cracks and crevices, You fill.

You reconnect broken pieces
making this water pitcher stronger than before.

Now, there's character. Now, there's empathy. Authenticity.
And though I didn't want to pay the price,
much needed humility.

(No one chooses to eat humble pie,
it is dished out when living.
"Want some?"
"No way," say I . . . as I swallow the ice cream piled high.)

You pour compassion where my heart,
has grown cold and still.
You replace expectation on others with acceptance, and
grow wings to carry and cover them, where I lack skill.

Grant me grace to accept Your grace, and
grace to give grace that heals.
Always to live in grace that swells and
cements cracked pieces together.

Then, fill me with Your living water
to pour on others as You will.

Grace, grace, grace.

I lift my face skyward, and the realization trickles to the lowest place and pools there . . .

It’s all grace.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

II Corinthians 4:7, "But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." (NIV)
