A Good Afraid

Matthew 28:8 “So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy…” (NIV)*

Filled with joy, we brought our newborn son home. His cries broke a decade of silence…pierced right through. And life’s never been the same.

I was surprised they let us leave the hospital with him. Papers signed and he was ours? Breezing through that window seemed too good to be true after years of doors slammed shut.

We drove back to the same house, yet different home, now filled with baby. Hearts full of joy. Hearts…afraid.

There are joy swelling moments in life that leave us hanging afraid. Dare we believe what our eyes are telling us is true? What we’d been told could happen, really happened…but could it be for real?

When afraid leads to clasping His feet and worshiping, it’s a good afraid. Go ahead and fall at those feet, grip them tight, prove them real. And then, listen.

Listen for comfort and wait for a word. He’s always moving us forward from hanging afraid moments to fulfill His purposes…

Matthew 28:9 “…They came to Him, clasped His feet and worshiped Him.” (NIV)*

Matthew 28:10 “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.'” (NIV)*
