A Prayer to Grow in Good Ways

From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God.
— Psalm 22:10 (NIV)

Grow me gracious
where I am rule bound.

Grow me in joy
where despair confounds.

Grow me humble
where pride struts tall.

Grow me strong
where I am nothing at all.

Grow me tender
where others have needs.

Grow me willing, to go
where you lead.

Grow me Yours
where I am too much.

Grow me able
where I’m not enough.

Grow me, grow me, root me in love.

……….

You have been my God from the beginning (Psalm 22:10 NIV). Always, You have been with me. Where can I go from Your presence (Psalm 139:7 NIV)? Where can I turn that You’re not there — watching over my life for good (Romans 8:28 NIV)?

Even before I bowed the knee, asked your forgiveness and accepted you as Savior, You were there. Patiently waiting for my heart to fully turn to You.

You hem me in, behind and before (Psalm 139:5 NIV). You go with me. You have been by God from youth (Psalm 71:5 NIV). Surely, You will walk with me into old age (Isaiah 46:4 NIV).

Keep me rooted and secured in You, I pray.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
