A Holy Secret

“Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” Psalm 29:1

It’s as if all creation brims with a holy secret.

The tallest trees shoot up, up, up, to catch a holy whisper.
Mountains caped with snow pulled smug on resting shoulders, grin,
As well-polished creek pebbles rehearse their choral refrain
over and over again.

Field grasses wave praise as they spread tender seeds into the next generation,
While lady flowers, laughing at the numbered days, display quilts
of divine color
As the rabbits, the fish, and the nesting birds savor their daily bread. Grateful.

Out of darkness, Truth sparkles from far flung stars
As the roundest moon, full of knowing, glows smug.

They all know.
They all cry glory, glory, glory.
Glory and strength to You, Lord God, to Whom it is due.

He gets all the glory.

To receive glory, I am too fragile.
Glory, though magnificent, weighs heavy.
I have no place to put it that it would not break my soul.

Man, a created thing, was not made to receive glory, but to give glory.

So I join creation’s song.
With every measured breath,
With every beat of my heart,
With every thought reigned,

I give You glory, glory, glory, and gratitude for this life I get to live.

Between every dawn that opens and every dusk that shuts at your sacred nod,

I get to live and breathe, give and receive.
I get to give love and get love back.
I get to relish creation and capture all the sacred moments.

My life, irrevocably stitched into Your divine quilt, becomes a messenger of Your holy secret.

As you bless your people with peace, peace, peace.

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:11
