But a breath

Psalm 39:5 “…Each man’s life is but a breath.” (NIV)*

A breath is airy and unable to be grasped. It comes and goes without conscious effort. A breath happens in but seconds. No single breath can ever be repeated. Ever. Each breath is unique, purposeful and life sustaining. Vital.

If life is but a breath — then let me use the time well. If life goes quickly, then let it count. May the days not be wasted and may the years be worthwhile. May seeds of righteousness and love from my life go on for a thousand generations.

Go ahead, breath. Scatter those seeds to multiply one thousand-fold. As my teen-age son says, “Yolo” — you only live once. Make it count.

Psalm 39:4 “Show me, O Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life.” (NIV)*
