For our own good

Deuteronomy 10:12-13 “And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands that I am giving you today for your own good?” (NIV)*

What does the Lord ask for our own good?

Fear Him…keep a healthy realization of who he is.

Walk in all his ways…get to know him, follow his path and do as he does.

Love him…love is a decision and closely linked to doing what he asks.

Serve him with all heart and soul…be wholehearted about his call on my life.

Observe the Lord’s commands…pay attention to what he says.

He is God. He doesn’t need me to follow him, to know him or even love him. It’s for my own good that he has filled his word with wisdom for living. He loves me.

His word tells us how to best live. Rather than stewing on what he says not to do, he asks us to focus on positive steps forward. We’re to fill our lives with good, not giving the negative a chance! As my husband says…more do and less stew!

May today find us loving and walking with him. Rest assured…it’s for our own good.

It’s spring break and I’ll be enjoying extra time with family and friends. Though I don’t plan on blogging next week, my journey through The One Year Bible continues…for my own good. Smile.
